Essay Structure: Introduction, Body, Conclusion

A clear framework for organizing academic essays that argue and persuade.

Last updated July 16, 2026

1.The thesis

A thesis is a single, arguable sentence at the end of your introduction that states your central claim.

2.Body paragraphs

Each body paragraph should focus on one idea. Use topic sentences, evidence, analysis and a transition to the next point.

3.Conclusion

Restate your thesis in new language, synthesize the main points, and end with a broader implication — not a summary.
