Algebra Essentials: From Variables to Quadratics

A structured walkthrough of the core algebra concepts every student should master before tackling advanced math.

1.Variables and expressions

A variable is a symbol that represents a number whose value can change. Expressions combine variables, numbers and operations. Simplifying expressions means combining like terms and applying the order of operations (PEMDAS).

2.Linear equations

A linear equation has the form ax + b = c. Solve by isolating the variable using inverse operations. Always perform the same operation on both sides to maintain equality.

3.Quadratic equations

Quadratics take the form ax² + bx + c = 0. They can be solved by factoring, completing the square, or the quadratic formula: x = (-b ± √(b² - 4ac)) / 2a.

4.Practice strategy

Work through mixed-problem sets rather than repeating one type. Spaced practice across days beats cramming for long-term retention.
